Longtime NFL coach Mike Vrabel has come full circle. Almost 20 years after playing his final game with the New England Patriots, the 49-year-old former linebacker has now returned to the team—this time in the role of head coach.
Vrabel, who was named the new head coach of the Patriots on Jan. 12, spent the majority of his own NFL career with the team—during which time he claimed three Super Bowl championships.
Vrabel, who once played college football at Ohio State University, began his career with the Pittsburgh Steelers, who selected him in the 1997 draft, and he ended his career with the Kansas City Chiefs, where he played for two seasons before hanging up his jersey once and for all.
But it was the Patriots who played the most significant role in Vrabel’s NFL career—and now, after more than 10 years as a coach, he’s found his way back to the New England side.
The move will see Vrabel and his family relocating for the fifth time since his retirement, when he headed back to his alma mater, Ohio State, to take up his first coaching job.

Since then, Vrabel has relocated to Houston, where he coached for the Texans, then to Tennessee, where he served as the head coach of the Titans for six seasons, before he was let go.
But while he has remained in each location for just a limited amount of time, the NFL coach has not let that stop him from laying down roots—and investing in property—everywhere he’s gone, a habit that has turned him into something of an accidental real estate mogul over the years.
Now, after signing a “multi-year contract” with the Patriots, the question remains: Will he pick up yet another property?
And, if he does, will it prove to be as profitable as his previous pads?
Inside Mike Vrabel’s terrific Tennessee abode
When Vrabel was hired by the Titans for his first head coaching job in the NFL, he also needed a mansion to match. He picked up the 6,100-square-foot abode in the upscale suburb of Forest Hills, near Nashville, TN, paying just under $2 million.
The six-bedroom, nine-bath abode, located on 2 wooded acres, had been built in 2017, the year before he purchased the property. The space boasts an open kitchen with a center island and Sub-Zero appliances, including a wine fridge, and wet bar.
The cook space flows to the living room that’s graced with a fireplace and built-in bookcases. From there, French doors open to a covered patio and an outdoor fireplace, along with a pool and a pool bar.
Elsewhere, there’s a finished basement and built-in audio system. The swanky estate also includes an elevator, office, a first-floor primary suite, and a “state-of-the-art gym.”
Mike and wife Jennifer recently let go of the property for a hefty profit. They sold the pretty place for $4.8 million last October, according to Realtor.com®.

Vrabel becomes a Texan—with a sizable home to boot
Vrabel, who had previously worked as a linebacker coach for the Houston Texans, sold his abode in Bellaire, TX, once he got his new job in Tennessee.
In 2018, Vrabel’s four-bedroom abode in Bellaire was put on the market for $1.99 million and sold in about a month, but the final price wasn’t disclosed. He purchased the place in 2014, when he joined the Texans. Property records don’t note his transaction amount, but the Mediterranean-style home was on the market in 2013 for $1.69 million.
The 5,843-square-foot spread features four bedrooms and six baths and includes “resort-inspired outdoor living,” the listing notes.

The outdoor space on a “coveted corner lot” sports a kitchen, heated pool, and three-car garage.

Bidding farewell to his hometown base
In the summer of 2014, Vrabel listing his home in Delaware, OH, having owned the property for nine years—seemingly purchasing the abode while he was still enjoying the final few seasons of his career on the field.
However, in 2014, the coach was called up by the Texans as their linebackers coach, prompting Vrabel to put his longtime Ohio abode on the market, initially with a price tag of $3.3 million, a far cry from the $505,000 he purchased it for.
Sadly for Vrabel, he failed to secure his original asking price and was forced to lower his expectations several times in the months after the property was listed, ultimately selling it off in July 2016 for $2 million exactly.
