Socialite Candice Miller Auctioning Off Belongings From $15 Million Mansion in Fire Sale—After Husband Killed Himself Amid $34 Million Debt Crisis
Socialite and influencer Candice Miller is auctioning off dozens of items from her sprawling $15.49 million Hamptons mansion, 18 months after her husband, Brandon Miller, died by suicide in the midst of a $34 million debt battle.
Candice, 42, was saddled with tens of millions of dollars in debt after her husband’s passing in July 2023—and one year after his death, listed the couple’s sprawling mansion in an apparent bid to try to raise enough funds to begin repaying that money.
Although the home is still listed, with an asking price of $15,495,000, it is understood to have sold, according to a report from the New York Times, which alleged that Brandon had taken out five mortgages on the property, totaling around $12 million.
It is not known what price the 8,000-square-foot dwelling sold for, and property records indicate the home is still in Brandon’s name.
The Water Mill, NY, home is where he was found unresponsive inside his Porsche Carrera on June 30, while his wife and children were on vacation on Italy’s Amalfi Coast.
He died in a Southampton hospital on July 3, after leaving a note indicating that he had intended to take his own life, according to a law enforcement source cited by the Times.
Now, as first reported by Page Six, a wide variety of items from the property—including couches, TVs, pots, pans, and even a massage table—have popped up on an auction website, with some pieces listed for as little as $1 or $2.
Though the auction listing does not mention Brandon or Candice by name, nor does it specify the property from which the items have been taken, it does mention that the “Mecox Bay Water Mill estate” was designed by famed interiors expert Julie Hillman, the same woman who worked with Brandon and Candice on their Hamptons home.
Images on Hillman’s website that were taken after the property was completed show the same white couch featured in the auction—revealing the furniture piece sitting on a rattan rug in front of a bold yellow art piece, the same setting in which it is seen on the auction site.
The auction website describes the fire sale as offering “a unique opportunity to bid on eclectic and high-end items from a beautifully designed Hamptons home created by renowned interior designer Julie Hillman.
“The auction features a carefully selected collection of fine art, furniture, decor, and bespoke pieces that were part of the home’s decor, providing an exclusive chance to own a piece of this stunning, meticulously crafted living space,” the description continues.
“For collectors and design enthusiasts, this is an unmissable opportunity to acquire rare, beautifully curated items with the unique touch of a celebrated designer.”
The auction also features a “sunburst” chandelier that appears to be the same design that once hung in Brandon and Candice’s primary suite, as well as the king-size bed that was also used in the room.
News of the sale comes just days after fresh details of Brandon’s debt battles emerged—with one source telling the Times that Brandon was “nearly in tears” when he approached him for a loan in early June 2023, just a few weeks before his death.
The lender who said he handed over $208,000 to Brandon, who promised to repay the loan within a week, says that he had previously “provided an unsecured loan of $1 million” to the father of two, who had paid back all but $60,000 of it.
That same source says that his $208,000 was repaid—plus interest—using money from the sale of the Hamptons property.
According to multiple reports, Candice has since left New York and relocated to Miami, where she and her two kids have been living in a stunning $10 million apartment owned by Diane von Furstenberg‘s son.
The property, which boasts four bedrooms and 4.5 bathrooms, according to its previous listing, is located in a very upscale area of Miami Beach, just a stone’s throw from the beach.
Candice is understood to have listed the home as her residence in legal documents that were filed in New York in mid-August as part of the former influencer’s ongoing attempt to get her late husband’s spiraling debts in check.
Prior to her husband’s passing, Candice had risen to social prominence while helming the popular lifestyle blog “Mama + Tata,” which she has since shut down.
On the site, she provided fashion and decorating advice for wealthy women, while showcasing her own lavish lifestyle of exotic vacations, grand dinner parties, and beauty treatments.
But in reality, the couple were facing mounting personal debts that are still only being brought to light.
Documents filed by Candice as part of a bond petition reveal that Brandon had four outstanding loans on the Water Mill home, including a $2 million mortgage from Titan Capital.
Brandon had also taken out a second $800,000 loan from that same company, which recently launched a lawsuit against the late real estate mogul’s wife in an attempt to recoup the funds, as well as loans with UBS and Stevens Financial Group.
He is also reported to have taken out an $11.3 million loan from BMO Bank, as well as a $6.1 million loan from financier Donald Jaffe, in addition to owing $300,000 to American Express and $266,000 to a Brooklyn-based company called Funding Club.
According to multiple reports, Brandon had assured his wife that their finances were under control before she jetted off to Italy with their children for a vacation—during which time he made a suicide attempt that ultimately resulted in his death.
